I have had the honor of attending a school that fosters leadership qualities in young women. Throughout my high school career and attending classes at St. Augustine's University, I have demonstrated leadership by serving as high school President in 2021, a member of the National Honor Society, and as a role model and choreographer at dance.
My ambition drives me to challenge the process and entertain wild ideas. From taking challenging college classes, picking up shifts at the YMCA, or choreographing dances for the recital, my ambitious nature allows me to reach beyond my comfort levels. One project I hope to continue is publishing the novel I wrote at the beginning of high school.
Having interpersonal skills is important to show respect to others and communicate effectively. I have learned interpersonal skills by working as a welcome desk attendant for my dance studio and the YMCA. Throughout my time at the YMCA, I have learned how to greet people and take payments, all the while dealing with day-to-day issues. At dance, I have learned how to talk with kids and manage a lobby. The spaces that cultivate my personability, such as dance and the YMCA, have taught me valuable lessons to prepare me for the future.
As Nelson Mandela said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Coming from a family with a long line of teachers, I am grateful for the educational opportunities I have been given. Taking unique classes at school has been a gift that I hope to repay through my impacts on the world. I have consistently remained ranked academically #1 in my class for the entirety of high school. I will continue to constantly open myself to knowledge, and apply this learning to impact the world.
14 years, now 20 hours a week. Dance has been my extracurricular activity since I was three and a half. I have learned the payoff of self-discipline, dedication, and hard work through dancing. It is an outlet for me to express my feelings in multiple styles, in a serious way through ballet, a fun way through hip-hop, or a moving way through contemporary. I cannot wait to continue dancing in the future and apply the lessons my studio, Graceful Expressions, has taught me to my life.
