I attended Governor's School in the summer of 2023, at the East Campus in Meredith College, in the area of dance. This selective 4-week summer program challenges rising seniors in an academic or arts subject they specialize in. Governor's School was a transformative experience because I was with like-minded individuals who cared about constant learning and were passionate about their area of expertise. I will take the lessons I learned and the friends I made from Governor's School and carry them with me.
I dance 20 hours a week at Graceful Expressions in numerous styles such ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz, tap, hip-hop, modern, musical-theatre, and others. Additionally, I am currently involved in the Classical, Contemporary, and Broadway companies at the studio. I had lead roles as Swanhilda in Coppelia, the Black Swan in Swan Lake, Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, and Jasmine in Aladdin. Also, I choreographed the Good Witch solo in Wizard of Oz, and a 9-dancer, 4-minute-long contemporary piece for the 2023 recital. I love expressing myself through my craft as both an artist and athlete, and am excited to seek out new experiences with dance as I transition to college.
Along with taking classes, I work as a teacher assistant at Graceful Expressions Dance Education. For the past 4 years, I have helped with classes between the ages of 5 and 11 in ballet, tap and jazz. As a teacher assistant, I serve as a role model for my students. I am grateful to my studio for providing me with the opportunity to share the art I love so much. In the future, I will continue teaching classes and inspire young dancers to gain confidence and develop their own style.
I am the first person you see when you enter the Taylor Family YMCA. As a welcome desk attendant, I greet members, field phone calls, process memberships and payments, fold towels, and helping the YMCA run smoothly. I started as volunteer behind the welcome desk when I was 12 and was offered a job last year. I am grateful to help build the YMCA community and share a smile with our members.
My internship with Fibonacci Solutions has provided an insight into the world of technology. Fibonacci Solutions is a software development and consulting company who works with businesses to manage the technological aspects behind the scenes of their websites. Over the summer, I have learned about the intersection between technology and business and about the inner workings of a small company.
My high school, Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy, provided me with the opportunity to dual-enroll in college classes with St. Augustine's University. The early college experience has taught me the importance of time management and self-discipline that comes with increased independence. I have been exposed to a diverse range of classes such as computer science, psychology, and engineering. Attending St. Augustine's University has prepared me for college life ahead.
